Birthstones are special gemstones given or dedicated to each month of the year. Birthstones were believed to have come to existence dating back to Aaron in the bible. In the book of Exodus, the breastplate had 12 gemstones, each engraved with the 12 tribes of Israel. Each gemstone was believed to have miraculous powers. Wearing them at the right time of the year was thought to have talismanic benefits. (an object, ring or stone, believed to bring good luck and have magical power).

Between the 1st and 5th centuries AD, about 2000 years ago. It is believed that two scholars namely Flavius Josephus and St.Jerome. They connected the 12 breastplates with the 12 months of the year and 12 signs of the Zodiac.
The of wearing birthstones was believed to have started in either Poland or Germany. This was way back in the early 16th Century. While there is no fixed or confirmed date as to when this tradition began. Authorities such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and others believed it was stated in Germany in the 1560s. It is also believed that the practice of wearing birthstone year-round started in Europe by Jews.

Every month in a year owns its only gem. A stone associated with a month is termed a birthstone. These gems are also linked to their zodiac cousins. Each gemstone is believed to represent the kind of person you are, depending on the month you were born.

January - Garnet: A deep red stone.
April - Diamond: A sparkly clear stone, mostly used for engagement rings.
August - Peridot : A sunny green gem

Diamonds are believed to mean being strong inside. Amethyst believed to mean being royal.
Opal, with its many colors, means being faithful. Birthstones are also linked to star signs. For example, Natural garnet is for Capricorn, and diamond is for Aries.
